Dave Buck - Fly Fishing Guide

Originally from Bend, Oregon, Dave Buck has called Montana home for nearly eight years, spending the majority of his time exploring and fishing the Bitterroot River and its East and West Forks. Over the years, he’s also guided on several of Montana’s most respected fisheries, including the Blackfoot, Beaverhead, Madison, and Big Hole rivers.

Dave splits his time between guiding and fishing for himself, typically guiding 40–60 days a year while spending another 150+ days on the water honing his craft. This balance keeps him sharp, dialed into current conditions, and deeply connected to the fisheries he loves. Whether he’s rowing his NRS raft or running his Adipose drift boat, Dave brings a thoughtful, fish-focused approach to every trip.

What Dave enjoys most about guiding is helping anglers succeed—especially those moments when everything comes together: the perfect cast, the right drift, and a trout rising to eat. He thrives on seeing clients connect with the process and experience that excitement firsthand.

While he appreciates Montana’s incredible fishing year-round, fall stands out as his favorite season for its quiet rivers and comfortable weather. That said, nothing quite compares to salmonfly season—his favorite hatch—when big bugs and aggressive trout create unforgettable days on the water.

When he’s not fishing, Dave lives a quieter, remote lifestyle, often cooking his own meals and staying close to the outdoors. His laid-back personality, dedication to the sport, and genuine enthusiasm for helping others make him a great guide for anglers looking to experience Montana the right way.
