David Hilburn - Fly Fishing Guide

Fly Fishing Guide | Outdoor Enthusiast | Montana Resident

Born in Santa Cruz, CA, David’s journey took him from the sunny coast to the mountainous landscapes of Hamilton, MT, at the age of 3. After spending his childhood in Montana, he returned to California for high school before ultimately coming back to his roots and graduating from the University of Montana. With a total of 17 years spent living in Montana, David has come to call it home.

As a seasoned Fly Fishing Guide on the Bitterroot River and Tsiu River in Alaska, David spends over 130 days a year on the water, guiding and fishing. Whether in his raft or alongside clients, he enjoys the relational aspect of guiding—building trust and creating memorable, successful experiences on the water. David values the simplicity of the outdoors, where the only time a cell phone comes out is to capture a beautiful moment or photograph.

One of his favorite times of year is the fall fishing season, where his proficiency in nymphing often results in successful catches or guiding the Skwala Hatch in the spring time. Though it may not be the busiest time of year, the productivity of the waters during this period makes it a special time for him.

Outside of fishing, David enjoys a good meal at Naps in Hamilton, where his go-to is a ribeye steak.
