I’m JD Dennis, a dedicated fly fishing guide who’s had the privilege of calling Montana home since 2005. Originally from Del Mar, CA, I moved to Montana to fully immerse myself in the outdoor lifestyle and to share my passion for fly fishing with others. Over the years, I spend more than 100 days a year on the water, guiding clients and fishing on my own through the beautiful and rugged Bitterroot River.
With my trusty Sotar Raft, I navigate the winding currents, offering an unforgettable experience for both beginners and seasoned anglers. I’m not just about catching fish; it’s about experiencing the thrill of the sport while surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the Bitterroot Valley. From the quiet, early mornings with mist rising off the water to the sunset reflections on the river, I believe that every trip should be as much about the journey as it is about the catch.
Fall is by far my favorite time of year—when the BWO’s are hatching, and the fishing is simply incredible. There’s something about the crisp air and the golden glow of the valley that makes it the perfect season for fly fishing. Whether it’s chasing browns in the crisp mornings or drifting through golden cottonwoods, it’s a magical time of year.
When I’m not on the water, I love to unwind at 5T’s, a local favorite where the food is as exceptional as the scenery. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep connection with the valley and its rhythms, and I’m always excited to share that with anyone eager to experience what makes the Bitterroot so special.
If you’re looking for an unforgettable day on the river, whether you’re hoping to land a trophy fish or simply take in the majestic views, I’d love to guide you through one of the best fishing experiences you’ll ever have. Let’s make some memories out on the Bitterroot!
