Travis Phflughaupt - Fly Fishing Guide

Hello! I’m Travis Pflughaupt, a Texan by birth and a Montanan by heart. After spending most of my life in Texas, I’m now entering my second year living in the breathtaking state of Montana. I guide on the Bitterroot River, including both the West and East Forks, and I’m fortunate enough to do so out of a raft, which offers a unique way to connect with the water and the land. With over 100 days spent guiding and fishing each season, I’ve had the privilege of learning the ins and outs of this incredible river system and the surrounding wilderness.

What truly drives me in this profession is the people I get to meet along the way. There’s something deeply rewarding about being part of someone’s fly fishing journey, whether they’re a seasoned angler or someone casting their first line. It’s an honor to be there when they have those “aha” moments—when they hook their first fish, land that perfect cast, or simply take in the beauty of the wild around them. I find real joy in seeing people connect with the outdoors, and I’m constantly amazed at the way nature has the power to help us feel more alive.

Fall holds a special place in my heart when it comes to the Bitterroot. The vibrant colors of the changing leaves, the crisp mountain air, and the Mahogany hatch all make this time of year magical. It’s a time of transition and reflection, and I cherish every moment spent on the river during this season.

When I’m not on the water, you’ll likely find me refueling at Naps Grill, my favorite spot in the valley. It’s the perfect place to unwind, share stories, and enjoy a great meal after a day on the river.

I’m grateful for the experiences and connections that guiding brings into my life, and I look forward to many more seasons of helping people experience the wonders of fly fishing in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
