Oct. 21 Clark Fork Fishing Report

Posted by Jeff Gray on

The tricos have gone away, making way for BWO and Mahogany hatches. Look for the afternoons to fish the best with small mayfly patterns in #14-20 range. Certainly if you have clouds the increase of dry fly activity will greatly improve.  Dry Droppers are still your best bet at consistent action. Small Mayfly nymphs such as Perdigons, PT's and Copper Johns will likely see more action than a single dry, don't forget worms and rubberlegs too! Streamer action can be sporadic but the anglers who put in the time will be rewarded. Try something yellow/brown or olive in color. Sparkle minnows and JJ Specials seem to work particularly well this time of year.

Flows:

  • @ Above Missoula = 1020 CFS (+50 CFS over the past 7 days)
  • @ Below Missoula = 1720 CFS (+100 CFS over the past 7 Days)
