Rock Creek Fishing Report
Rock Creek continues to fish well as nights cool down. With steady flows and great clarity, this freestone is giving anglers a mix of solid dry fly action and strong streamer opportunities.
Dry Fly Fishing
-
Mahoganies are coming off steadily late morning into afternoon.
-
BWOs are fishing well in slower seams and eddies during cloudy afternoons.
-
October caddis are starting to emerge, and trout are looking for them. A big orange stimulator in size 10 is a strong choice.
Nymphing & Streamers
-
Tungsten jigs, small stonefly patterns, and pheasant tails are working in pocket water.
-
Streamer fishing has been excellent early and late. Black, olive, and natural sculpin patterns are producing larger trout.
-
A hopper-dropper setup is still effective mid-day.
Fishing Strategy
-
Cover water—Rock Creek fish are spread out, but actively feeding.
-
Look for pods of risers during BWO hatches in softer seams.
-
Streamers should be stripped aggressively across deeper runs to trigger big fish.
Guide’s Note: Rock Creek in September is classic Montana fall fishing—dry flies, streamers, and light angling pressure make this a top choice.
